Square is a great story and its founder is a great entrepreneur, but merchants need to look beyond the hype and into the numbers. The question you should be asking yourself is "Does it make sense for me to accept credit card with Square?" For some the answer will be "yes" (as for the cupcake baker in our story: http://blog.unibulmerchantservices.com/cupcakes-credit-card-processing-and-square), but for quite a few the answer will be "no."

Simply put, Square is a good match for merchants with low monthly processing volumes (because it comes with no monthly or any other fixed fees) and for merchants whose average transaction amount is very low (because Square charges no fixed transaction fee). However, for everyone else its 2.75% per-transaction rate is simply way too high, as the industry average hovers around 1.70% plus $0.20 per transaction.

Valerie - if you decide to not use the hardware that comes with Square there is an option to manually enter a credit card number. Check out this helpful tutorial from the folks at Square on how to accomplish this.

https://help.squareup.com/customer/portal/articles/65089-accepting-payments-without-a-card-reader

There are advantages to using the card reader though...

Using the Card Reader = 2.75% per swipe.
If you type in the card information manually, their fee is 3.5% + 15¢.

We've used it both ways...and having the ability to take a credit card number over the phone and enter it into the Square Application is pretty cool.

You know there's a plug-in that does this, right? It's foolproof, actually. I tried doing it without the plugin and got errors. But the plug-in was smooth sailing. I think it was called Add New Default Avatar. Search for it in the add new plugin screen of the WP dashboard.

Darrin - that's a great question. We haven't found a real easy way to copy and paste from Google Docs, retain formatting, and embed directly into WordPress. We suggest saving your Google Docs document as a Word file. Once you have done that, open your Word file and select all, then copy, then open up your WordPress post. The key is to then make sure you are using the Visual editor. Simple paste in and it should work. You may see a few lines of code above the first line of your content...you can remove those. Hope this helps! You may also want to look into a plugin like Inline Google Docs.
